JOB DESCRIPTIONS OF THE CEO

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Chief Executive Officer’s overall function is to strategically manage and lead the bank to ensure that it achieves its corporate goals. The CEO shall be the overall manager of the day to day activities of the bank and shall have the powers to make final decisions at management level. The CEO shall, therefore, be responsible for ensuring that the operations of the bank are conducted in accordance with provisions of state laws, Regulations and Guidelines of the Bank of Tanzania, policies and procedures prescribed by the bank’s Board of Directors an generally accepted principles of banking business The CEO is responsible for the strategic direction of the Bank, thus he/she shall ensure that the Vision and Mission of the Bank are effectively achieved. In that regard, the Chief Executive Officer’s duties and responsibilities shall include;


1.Coordinating the supervision of the activities of the bank and ensuring that they comply with country laws, BOT regulations and Guidelines, internal policies and procedures, Board directives and generally accepted banking practices.

2.Managing the day to day operations of the bank so as to ensure that the bank operates within sound commercial principles.

3.Leading the management team in supervising the implementation of the bank’s Strategic Plan for 2010 to 2013 and ensuring that the targets set therein are achieved.

4.Ensuring that annual Business Plans are prepared and submitted to the Board of Directors for approval and that operations of the bank are in conformity with the approved business plan.

5.Ensuring that annual budgets are prepared and submitted to the Board of Directors for approval for every ensuing year and that bank operations are conducted within the approved budget.

6.Ensuring that bank performance reports including progress reports on the financial performance and staff development are prepared and submitted to the Board of Directors quarterly.

7.Ensuring that financial accounts of the bank are audited every year and reports submitted to the Board of Directors in accordance with provisions of law.

8.Ensuring that various policies and programs for management of operational risks, credit risks, liquidity risks, foreign exchange risks and any other inherent risks are put in place and implemented accordingly.

9.Supervising recruitment, performance evaluation, promotion or disciplining of employees whose recruitment is within the powers of the management.

10.Initiating recruitment, performance appraisal, promotion or disciplining of employees whose recruitment is within the powers of the Board of Directors.

11.Ensuring that there are specific and clear job descriptions for every employee.

12.Monitoring the effectiveness of the Organization structure of the bank and proposing to the Board of Directors changes when deemed necessary.

13.Maintaining and promoting harmonious labour relations within the bank.

14.Maintaining and promoting good public relations and corporate image of the bank.

15.Providing the link between the Board of Directors and management of the bank.

16.Appraising the Board of Directors on all matters relating to the day to day activities of the bank.

17.Facilitating the Board of Directors and its committees to discharge effectively their functions.

18.Ensuring that human resource capabilities and appropriate management structures, systems and policies are developed for sustainable growth of the Bank.

19.Building effective working relationship with Government leaders, regulatory bodies and business partners in the market.

20.Pro-actively managing relationships with Press, Government and regulatory authorities to avoid reputational distress.

21.Motivating, coaching and developing a high –performing team.

22.Shall be the Chief spokesperson of the bank.
